Q How long will the walk be? A You will be walking for about 6 miles over woodland
and country paths. We will be using public footpaths such as the Greensand Way.
Q Do we have to be particularly fit to take part in the
walk? A No, any normally fit person should have
no problems. It is not a race.
Q How long will the walk take? A About three hours, including a refreshment
break.
Q I can only get two people for my team. Can we still
take part? A There must be at least four in a
team for safety reasons. We will endeavour to put you in touch with
others in the same position as you.
Q Can people under 18 take part? A Yes, but they must have the written signed consent of
their parent or guardian and the team leader must be over 18. However persons
under 12 can not normally take part.
Q Do we need to be able to read a map? A The walk is divided into three legs. At the start of
each leg you will be given written instructions. To follow these instructions,
one person in your team needs to be able to read a compass. We recommend that
one of you carries a map of the area and is able to read it in case you get
lost or in the event of an emergency.
Q What happens if someone has to drop out during the
walk, or we get lost? A There will be emergency
communication and first aid assistance at each check point on the course, and
you will be given a set of telephone numbers so you can contact our central
control using your mobile phone. When you check in on the evening you will also
be given a safety briefing and a set of emergency procedures. We will have
search and rescue squads standing by at all times.
Q Will we have to take our own food and drink? A You can if you wish, but water will be available at
check-points and hot food will be available at the half-way point.
Q Do we need any special equipment? A Each member of the team will need suitable clothing,
footwear and a torch. At least one member should carry a compass, a map, and a
mobile phone. We also recommend that all members carry a whistle. Full
details will be in the joining instructions.
Q Is Moonraker a competition and are there any
prizes? A The purpose of the walk is primarily
to raise money in an enjoyable way for Help for Heroes, the Hurst Green Scout
Hut Appeal and Rotary Charities. Each participant will receive a
certificate for completing the course, and there will be other prizes e.g. for
the person who raises the largest amount in sponsorship.
Q How is the money going to be raised? A We have a number of commercial sponsors who have
kindly agreed to support us. We will be asking each walker to raise sponsorship
for themselves and we will be sending you sponsorship forms when you register.
Please bring these with you on the night so that they can be
validated.
Q When will the prizes be presented and when will we
know how much money has been raised? A The
Awards Evening will take place at the Limpsfield Royal British Legion on Monday
28th June 2010 at 7.30 pm. |
